by michaelandrewes on 4 April, 2011

Good News Good news, thanks to the Lib Dems on Portsmouth City Council free swiming has returned for 16 and under and 60 and over.

The Free Swimming Programme is a Portsmouth City Council initiative designed to extend the opportunities to swim and maximise the health benefits of wider participation in swimming. It is only available for residents of Portsmouth and proof of address will be required e.g. copy of a utility or Council Tax bill. A one off administration charge of £2.00 will be payable on registration.

In trying to encourage use of the City Council’s Cultural Services, to be able to benefit from this free swimming initiative applicants will be required to have a valid Portsmouth Library Service card. Details of how to get your card can be obtained from any Portsmouth public library or online here.

Free swimming is available at the following swimming pools; Eastney Swimming Pool, Charter (St Luke’s) Community Sports Centre and the Mountbatten Leisure Centre 50m pool.

For more details see http://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/living/15447.html and the free swimming leaflet (pdf file).
